Working on a Digi-Doujin FAQ

Mon Feb 5, 2007, 9:30 AM
I have established a mailing list for all of those wanting to work on the Digimon doujinshi project...now I am trying to figure out a FAQ for those that join later...these are the questions I have so far, please comment and tell me if you can think of any others I should include.

Q. What exactly is the Digi-Doujin Project?

A. The Digi-Doujin Project, short for "Digimon Doujinshi," is an effort for Digimon Adventure fans from around the world to contribute to the still-thriving Digimon Adventure community, and keep the fandom alive around the world. Artists in several countries will contribute their artwork to two (or more) books to be sold at (tentatively) Tokyo's Winter ComiKet in December 2007.

A. Initially there are plans to do two books: a JouxMimi only book and an All Character book. This may grow in number as interest has now passed the 20 mark, and I don't want anyone to be left out! XD

While it is not required, it is strongly requested that, in exchange for all the translation work and financial burden will be undertaking, that each participant contribute something to the JouxMimi book. ^^<3

Q. What language will it be?

A. As of right now, the book will only be printed in Japanese. For international orders, a special insert containing English translations will be printed.

Q. I love to draw! But I suck at comics. T.T Can I still help?

A. Of course! As mentioned earlier, we are looking for artists that can do stationary, idol cards, bookmarks, stickers, and other character goods! Of course I am looking for people to do cover art as well, but those other things are of higher priority!

Q. What do you want me to draw?

A. Personally I would like everyone to submit something of JouxMimi, just as a courtesy to me. ^^;; But for the All-Character book, pretty much anything goes! Just a few guidelines:

*straight couples only (sorry, folks), though boy-boy interaction can be drawn, it can't be blatantly romantic in nature.
*no SoraYama (I have lost any and all taste for it, sorry. T.T That and it wouldn't sell.)
*PG-13 only
*Jou/Gomamon and Kido Brothers encouraged!!!
*no KouMimi (also goes against my personal pairing preferences)
*angst allowed, though light-hearted/gag preferred

I will also want a variety of content. So I already have enough KenxMiyako people (wow), as well as some other people doing things including Ken...so as I get people's ideas, keep in mind that I might need you to be flexible. <3

Q. What size do you want me to draw?

A. The books will be B5 in size.

Q. What quality?

A. Please make your scans at 350dpi.

Q. I cannot think of anything to draw. @.@

A. It's okay! That is what the mailing list is for! There are a lot of people (including myself) that are story writers and will be happy to help you come up with something!

Q. When is all this due?

A. I would like the complete drafts finished no later than the beginning of July. I will like updates on progress in the meantime though. I want to put the books to print by October, no later than November. We are aiming for Winter ComiKet, so I want plenty of time to work on this.

Q. Can I do Tamers/Frontier/Savers?

A. Sorry, this is a Digimon Adventure/02 ONLY book. You are allowed to have the other series on your Splash Page though.

Q. What is a Splash Page?

A. A Splash Page is a seperate page with your ID (and pen name) and information, plus a little "Free Talk" about the project and your interest in Digimon. I will like all artists to submit a half-page Splash Page to go at the end of the book in the "Contributors" section.

Q. I don't want to/can't submit artwork, but I still want to help! Anything I can do?

A. That is so sweet of you! Well, you can start by joining the mailing list and giving us your moral support! In the near future, I will be putting up a PayPal account if you would like to help offset the intial publishing costs, since I am paying for this by myself. ^^;

Q. Can people outside Japan buy copies when they are finished?

A. You betchas! More info once the project nears completion!

hey hun, if you make a DA stamp for the doujinshi I'll add it to my page
I make be able to whip up some stickers/bookmark and a splash~ Im not sure about a comic though, I have not even tried to make one in years! Panel layouts and all O_O

stickers would be fun though, because I love working in color!

I think its so nice that you are doing the printing costs and giving us some free books in exchange for art, this will be a fun project to do~ Digimon will always have a special place in my heart! If you need help selling the books at the con, who knows~ I may fly over for a visit! lol I was planning on taking a trip to Korea-Japan this year to do a little art research. Doujinshi shows are awesome over there, the one I went to back in 2001 in Nagoya was the best! So much great stuff! :D
